Jelaluddin Rumi was born in Afghanistan sometime around 1207; he died in Turkey on December 17, 1273. Rumi was a sufi (a mystical branch of Islam). The sufi's have many different orders, and Rumi founded the Mevlevi Dervish Order (of "Whirling Dervish" fame). He was a poet of timeless wisdom, and immense heart.
The quotes in the podcast are from The Essential Rumi -- translated by Coleman Barks.

A SUFI PRAYER:
Beloved Lord; Almighty God!
Through the rays of the sun; through the waves in the air;
through the all-pervading life in space --
purify, and revivify me, and I pray,
heal my body, heart, and soul. Amen
